Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics, Ton Duc Thang University, offers two undergraduate programs: Applied Mathematics, and Statistics. We also offer a Master program in Applied Mathematics.

Undergraduate Programs:

The Applied Mathematics program is designed to give students career opportunities in the field of mathematics or careers that require mathematical thinking. It provides students with basic and modern knowledge in mathematics and computer science, focusing on equipping students with mathematical modeling skills and practical problem solving methods.

     

    2. Output standards

    PROGRAMME SPECIFICATION_2020

    Graduated in Applied Mathematics, students gain the following knowledge and skills:

    Computer skills: well-applied informatics to work; using mathematical software such as Matlab, Maple, R, ... in learning mathematics and solving real problems. Foreign language skills: TOEIC 500 or IELTS 5.0 (or equivalent international English certificate). Soft skills: teamwork, organizing, problem solving and decision making, communication, presentation skills.

    3. Career prospects

    Upon successful completion of the Applied Mathematics program, students may undertake the following positions:

    Teach mathematics in colleges. Participate in building algorithms for application software. Use mathematical models to analyze data for evaluation and forecasting; analyze and assess statistical data as well as supply and demand of the market;... Work in quantitative finance, analyze and estimate insurance premiums, analyze data for economic sectors, stock companies, investment funds, credit institutions, banks.
    • Professional knowledge and skills: having skills in mathematical modeling for practical mathematical problems, computational skills, and computer programming skills for solving numerical problems and explaining results.

    2. Statistics

    1. Introduction

         The undergraduate programme in Statistics at Ton Duc Thang University equips students with basic knowledge and skills related to probability, mathematical statistics, data analysis and statistical computing. With the rapid development of big data and data science, the demand for these skills has increased significantly. Bachelor of Statistics has the ability to handle problems related to data collection, synthesis and analysis, as well as the ability to build statistical forecasting models.

         The academic staff for the programme graduated from prestigious universities at home and abroad, have good capacity in teaching and scientific research, and have a lot of practical working experience.

         In addition to learning professional knowledge and skills, students studying the undergraduate programme in Statistics are also trained and nurtured with many essential skills for sustainable development, such as self-study skills, team building and leadership skills, presentation skills, critical thinking, etc. Students experience the real working environment at businesses through the internship graduation course. In addition, students are trained in the spirit of the collective and community through many meaningful activities of the youth union and student association.

    Students must meet graduation conditions according to regulations on organization and training of university degrees according to the credit system of Ton Duc Thang University:

    - Complete the subjects and achieve the number of credits required by the programme;

    - International English certificate IELTS 5.0 or other equivalent certificates;

    Bachelor of Statistics can work in many of the following job positions:

    - Statistical operations at state statistical units in Vietnam, such as the general statistics office of Vietnam, the statistical offices of provinces and centrally run cities, and the statistical offices of districts, towns, and cities;

    - Synthesizing, reporting, and analyzing statistics on socio-economic indexes at departments, branches, and sectors at all levels of government from central to local;

    - Data analysis specialists at market research, insurance, securities, and financial companies;

    - Teaching courses on statistics and probability at universities, colleges, and vocational schools in the Vietnamese education and training system;

    - In addition, with the expertise in collecting, analyzing, and reporting statistical data learned, graduates have the flexibility to adapt to other jobs in many socio-economic fields.

    In the 4th Industrial Revolution, Statistics is considered one of the key majors with great employment potential. Recent survey results show that 100% of Statistics graduates from TDTU find jobs within 12 months of graduation.
