Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics, Ton Duc Thang University, offers two undergraduate programs: Applied Mathematics, and Statistics. We also offer a Master program in Applied Mathematics.

Undergraduate Programs

Applied Mathematics

1. Introduction

The Applied Mathematics program is designed to give students career opportunities in the field of mathematics or careers that require mathematical thinking. It provides students with basic and modern knowledge in mathematics and computer science, focusing on equipping students with mathematical modeling skills and practical problem solving methods.

2. Output standards

PROGRAMME SPECIFICATION_2020

Graduated in Applied Mathematics, students gain the following knowledge and skills:

Computer skills: well-applied informatics to work; using mathematical software such as Matlab, Maple, R, ... in learning mathematics and solving real problems. Foreign language skills: TOEIC 500 or IELTS 5.0 (or equivalent international English certificate). Soft skills: teamwork, organizing, problem solving and decision making, communication, presentation skills.

 

3. Career prospects

Upon successful completion of the Applied Mathematics program, students may undertake the following positions:

Teach mathematics in colleges. Participate in building algorithms for application software. Use mathematical models to analyze data for evaluation and forecasting; analyze and assess statistical data as well as supply and demand of the market;... Work in quantitative finance, analyze and estimate insurance premiums, analyze data for economic sectors, stock companies, investment funds, credit institutions, banks.
  • Professional knowledge and skills: having skills in mathematical modeling for practical mathematical problems, computational skills, and computer programming skills for solving numerical problems and explaining results.
Statistics

1. Introduction

The Statistics Program is designed to give students career opportunities in statistics or related fields. Statistics provides students with basic knowledge of classical and modern statistics, and equips students with some skills in professional statistical software such as R, SPSS, ….

2. Output standards

Graduated in Statistics, students gain the following knowledge and skills:

Computer skills: well-applied informatics to work; using specialized designing software (R, SPSS, ...). Foreign language skills: TOEIC 500 or IELTS 5.0 (or equivalent international English certificate). Professional knowledge and skills: skills in data collection and establishing statistical models to predict results, computational and programming skills using specialized statistical software such as R, SPSS,...

 

3. Career prospects

After graduation students in Statistics can take up the position of statistical specialist in the following facilities:

Financial companies: stock companies, investment funds, credit institutions, banks, insurance companies; Companies that handle large data: market research companies, maritime and aviation companies; Statistical institutes: statistics offices, research institutes (medicine, mathematics, mechanics, ...); Planning, finance, and market research departments in business organizations or planning, product designing, production moderating departments in production companies. In addition, bachelors in Statistics can also participate in doing research and teaching statistics at research institutes or universities.
