From March 22, 2026, a delegation from the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics (FMS), Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thanh Toan, Vice Dean in Charge of FMS, visited and worked for a week at the University of L'Aquila (UAQ), Italy, as part of a 1+1 joint master's program in Applied Mathematics.
The University of L'Aquila, established in 1952, is a public higher education institution in Italy, located in L'Aquila, the administrative center of the Abruzzo region. The university currently has over 19,000 students and trainees, with approximately 600 lecturers and researchers, offering a diverse range of training and research programs in various fields.
During the working session, the delegation exchanged views with representatives and professors of UAQ on the implementation of the joint program, and participated in academic activities and collaborative networking. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thanh Toan presented on the training and development orientation of the FMS. The delegation also met with Professor Bruno Rubino, Vice-Rector for International Relations of UAQ, and TDTU students currently in their second phase of study there. Representatives from UAQ discussed the academic and research progress of the TDTU students, acknowledging their efforts and adaptability in an international environment.
The joint Master's program in Applied Mathematics between TDTU and UAQ is implemented in a 1+1 format, where students complete Phase 1 at TDTU and Phase 2 at UAQ. Upon completion of the program, students have the opportunity to receive a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics from TDTU and a Master's degree in Engineering Mathematics from UAQ.
The two sides exchanged views and agreed on several directions for future cooperation, including improving the Master's program in Applied Mathematics through a 1+1 joint program; strengthening policies to support TDTU students participating in the second phase of study at UAQ; discussing the possibility of co-organizing international conferences, cooperating in scientific research, and implementing faculty and student exchange programs; and also discussing the possibility of developing additional 1+1 joint Master's programs in other fields.
This working visit contributes to strengthening and developing the cooperative relationship between Ton Duc Thang University and L'Aquila University, aiming to improve the quality of postgraduate training and enhance international integration in the fields of education and scientific research.
